Yorkshire Biker Cafes - Emmy Reviews

Published on 17 May 2023 at 20:04

Hello! Welcome to the Women’s Association of Riders monthly blog! My name is Emmy and for this months blog we’re going to talk to you about biker cafes that are local to us. Local to me is York and the surrounding areas. I can’t claim to know all the places well with exception of a couple but at least you get an idea of where you can visit.

//Strawberry Fields\\

Crockey Hill, York, YO19 4SJ

4.5 ⭐️ - Google Maps

So let’s go! First up, we’ve got Strawberry fields. Owned by the wonderful Michaela, Strawberry fields is a little cafe located on the A19 at Crockey Hill. (Well just before or after depending on your direction. 😉) A little something something about how they got their name, the fields behind the cafe used to be filled with strawberry plants and it was the local place to go for strawberry picking!

Strawberry fields is a friendly place where I’ve found everyone is happy to help each other. It’s especially a really happy place in the summer months once their Friday night bike nights start. (They do also have a Biker breakfast club on a Sunday all year round.) Although Strawberry fields has earned a reputation as a biker cafe, it’s not limited to this and you do get a varied collection of people visiting. Prices have gone up recently obviously due to the cost of living but the food is decent, a mix of homemade cakes and bought locally and the staff are friendly and welcoming. They also have events running throughout the year such as bike shows and are involved in lots of charity events. Thumbs up for that!

//The Monkey Pot\\

Riccall airfield Industrial Estate, Market Weighton Road, Selby YO8 5LD

4.8 ⭐️ - Google Maps (It’s very new.)

Next up we’ve got The Monkey Pot! A real quirky little place that’s run out of a Portakabin! Run by the gorgeous JoJo and her lovely man Dave the Monkey Pots location is further up the A19 on Riccall Airfield. These two are a really lovely friendly couple which in turn gives the cafe a warm inviting feel. They do massive milkshakes for £3 but it’s their breakfasts that keep the folk coming. They’ve got the chimp at £6.50, the gorilla at £8 and the king Kong at £13 and as you can imagine it’s slightly huge (good luck with that folks.) Their cakes are slightly drool inducing and nothing is too much trouble for these guys. They have a Tuesday night bike night (which I unfortunately haven’t made it down to yet due to having a toddler who can’t stay up past 7 at the moment.) Although they are a smaller and newer cafe than the others at the moment, they more than make up for that with good food, a wonderful atmosphere, their friendliness. I’d highly recommend!

// Squires \\

Squires Cafe Bar, Newthorpe Lane, Newthorpe, South Milford, Leeds, West Yorkshire, LS25 5LX

4.6 ⭐️ - Google Maps

Squires is next on the list. I haven’t spent a lot of time here but it’s a big cafe. They have a huge car park and plenty of space inside. They host a lot of events all year round that aren’t just limited to bikes but also for familes. They put on stunt shows and on some of those days, they have a small funfair to keep the kids entertained with a band playing on the evening. Squires is located at Newthorpe and they have a history of over 40 years. There is a caravan and campsite available, on site bike accessory shop, Wednesday is bike night and on Sundays they do a carvery using their own farm reared Aberdeen Angus beef. (I got this from their website.) With all they have, Squires is a pretty impressive cafe and definitely worth a visit.

// Seaways \\

Seaways of Fridaythorpe

Fimber Road, Fridaythorpe, YO25 9RX

4.6 ⭐️ - Google Maps

Then we’ve got Seaways. Seaways is located at Fridaythorpe, Driffield and is a popular meeting place. It’s also surrounded by beautiful countryside. I haven’t personally spent much time here but it’s a popular place with most bikers I know which should tell you all you need to know! They’ve got a great selection of food (I’ve only eaten chips) but last year they did a Christmas dinner on Christmas Day which I thought was lovely and the cafe itself is a really good size too. The staff are friendly and happy to help and it’s in a good location on the way to Bridlington.

// The Motorist \\

New Lennerton Lane, Sherburn in Elmet, Leeds LS25 6JE

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Facebook reviews

Just one more from me… We recently ventured out to the Motorist which isn’t just a biker cafe as the name implies. I’ve got to say though I was impressed, it’s huge with a garage and bodyshop, a bar, a restaurant, a shop and you can have private functions there. The staff were really accommodating, it was hot and I cheekily asked if they could put some ice in a cup so I could have an iced coffee, and even though they haven’t put them on the menu yet, (they reassured me they are doing) and they were busy the lady behind the counter did so. I thought that was good of them. The car park is huge with all kinds of people visiting, some very nice (expensive) cars and bikes. Gotta say I really liked this place a lot.

I also just wanted to add, that all of our local cafes in some way support a local dedicated team called The Congenital Myotonic Dystrophy Ride of Hope. This is a team of wonderful people who ride to raise awareness of this debilitating and brutal condition. They support their charity Paks (Positive AIDS for Kids) which in turn supports children with congenital myotonic dystrophy. Two of our local riders have an adopted son, who was born with this conditon and each year, with a team of over 20 riders they ride from lands end in Cornwall to Lochness. Anyone can join and you can find them here on Facebook.

So that’s it from me. There are other cafes around such as Trackers but I haven’t personally been up there but I hope this does help if you’re visiting Yorkshire. As always safe riding all!
