Calne - The Yorkshire Dales
This would be my first ever motorbike trip. Safe to say I was super excited!
I got up around 5am, sorted myself out then packed using just a backpack and small tank bag which was strapped down to the rear seat.
Google maps had predicted a 6hr trip due to being on L plates & no motorways!
I set off around 6am and headed towards my first stop near Coventry. I ended up stopping at Royal Leamington Spa as I was so excited & just had to update my socials already!
From memory this was the hardest part of the trip as the signage became confusing and I did get lost. However from there after it was easier to navigate when going from city to city.
From Coventry it was time to head towards Nottingham!
When I arrived I stopped at a Lidl for some food as by this time it was almost lunch. I believe it had taken around 4/5 hours to do just over 150 miles with traffic, stops and getting lost. However I was still enjoying my trip and very excited for the miles ahead!
From Nottingham it was time to find Doncaster! This was another couple hours into the trip and early afternoon by the time I arrived.
Upon reaching Doncaster already the landscape was so different to down in Wiltshire!
Then on towards Leeds, using the outskirts to make my way to Harrogate.
After a brief stop in Harrogate it was time to head towards my hotel in Masham at The Kings Head Hotel!
I became aware of reaching the Yorkshire Dales from the fresh air, beautiful scenery and the accent of the locals. Quite the contrast from what I was used to.
I checked in, the man at the front desk was a bit taken aback that I had travelled 250 miles on my own to stay the night in a hotel…alone. Hah. I didn’t find it strange at all at the time and I enjoyed every minute.
After dropping my things off I headed towards Aysgarth Falls. And I’ve actually heard a scene in Robin Hood was shot there (no idea if true or not)
My plan was then to see Ribblehead Viaduct but unfortunately I didn’t have time as I had booked myself in for dinner when I arrived at the hotel.
After a few pictures and enjoying the wonderful scenery it was time for a nice meal after all that riding!
I went and got myself ready for dinner and enjoyed a traditional vegetarian roast with the best Yorkshire pudding I’d ever had! It was huge! Well, makes sense I was in Yorkshire after all. Washed down with a pink Gin lemonade I was too ready for bed.
The next morning it was time to get up at 6am and do it all again on the way home!

Looking back on my trip 250 miles would be a nice ride out on my Monster or CBF and definitely wouldn’t take more than 5 hours even with breaks. I think It took me around 10/11 hours to do 250 miles on a 125, even doing 83mph pinned as much as I could!
Next trip I’d like to film stops and check ins and just have the whole video flow a lot better. Lake District next?
